250 Years: America Turns Semiquincentennial

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of people signed a document declaring they'd had enough. On July 4, 2026, the United States marks its Semiquincentennial — a word almost as hard to pronounce as the country was to hold together.

A quarter-millennium is a long run for any experiment in self-government. It's outlasted empires, weathered a civil war, and survived more than a few arguments about what it all means. That's worth a few fireworks.

So tonight, wherever you are: look up, watch the sky light up, and raise something cold to 250 years of a messy, unfinished, still-going idea.

Happy Independence Day. 🎆
